The shadows she saw on the lawn inspired her to work for months on an approach that does not, however, paint the object she chose onto canvas. It is more like the image has been transformed to it's own representation which is based an interpretation by the artist. It is most effective when dealing with living objects or objects that can be perishable like people or fruits. The transient nature of her painting style is evident and what remains of Alexa Meade's art is a photographic image. Photography and painting techniques closely synchronized, which results in a two-dimensional, flat space which achieves trompe-l'oeil. The only elements of the picture, like the hair or eyes, show the third dimension. Meade has also integrated her painted models within the 3-dimensional space around them. Their interaction and this created world is possible. In this way, she has removed the borders between painting, photography and performance.
